Chizu & Andrew’s Wedding: Los Angeles Walt Disney Concert Hall

Chizu and Andrew celebrated a beautiful wedding this past weekend at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downton Los Angeles. I first heard from Chizu about year ago as she started planning her wedding. She envisioned her day to be modern, elegant, with geometric forms. I was pretty excited when her wedding day came and couldn’t wait to see how it all came together. Here’s some of my favorite images from Chizu and Andrew’s day.

Ashley & Donnie’s Indian Wedding

Ashley and Donnie celebrated a colorful and festive Indian Wedding this past weekend at the Ramsey’s Club. Ashley’s vision of bold colors and lots of flowers came to life as the day was filled with love, family, and friends. Ashley wore a beautiful purple and magenta colored Sari, and Donnie wore a traditional suit to honor his Italian heritage.

Aloha Hawaii: Personal

There’s a few things in life better than a last minute vacation to somewhere tropical. It was just a week and a half ago when Mat and I decided to take a Saturday afternoon flight to Hawaii and stay for the week. We’ve previously went to Maui 3 years ago (you can see those pictures HERE). This time around, our plans included a lot of water adventures and exploring the island. Here’s some of my favorite images.

Below is a couple pictures of our time share room, courtesy of my in-laws Leslye and Bart! Included was our own kitchen, allowing us to save some money by cooking our own meals. We had a wonderful view out the balcony from the 15th floor, facing Waikiki. A couple nights we could see some fireworks through the buildings.

On our first full day, we went over to a beach to snorkel and spotted a place where we could rent kayaks and paddle out to a bird sanctuary an hour off the shore.

The best dinner was the tasting menu at a fancy hotel, with a beach view of Waikiki at sunset.

Horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch, the place where Lost and Jurassic Park were filmed.

Turtle beach.

Just in case anyone is interested in some wedding/ or engagement portraits on the island, I found some perfect spots! How inviting is this rope swing over the water?

Aurora & James’ Maternity Session

You might recognize the faces of Aurora and James from when they got married in San Juan Capistrano back in September of last year. Their wedding was amazing, and even at that time many friends and family talked about how beautiful their children will be. A few months ago I got news from Aurora she was expecting their first baby! We decided to wait until she was about 7.5 months pregnant to have some beautiful portraits taken of the two of them and their newest addition. Aurora wanted to shoot somewhere with a beautiful landscape and grassy fields. Caspers Park in San Juan Capistrano could not be more perfect. Congratulations to you both Aurora and James!! I can’t wait to meet your baby girl!

A Trip to Palm Springs: Personal

This week, Mat and I had a midweek adventure to Palm Springs. On the way there, we stopped at Cabazon to see the ”Worlds Biggest Dinosaurs“.

From the road you can easily see the large Brontosaurus and T-Rex. Both you can climb inside.

On our way inside, follow the trail!

A lot of the dinosaurs were lifesize-ish.

It was so windy that day.

This shot below was inside the mouth of the T-Rex.

More randomness inside the gift shop with the riding monkey on robotic dinosaurs, and white stallion?

That night we stayed at the beautiful Riviera Hotel.

Jennifer & Henry: Huntington Beach Engagement

Today, I’d like to share the beautiful engagement session of Jennifer and Henry. These two are Huntington Beach residents who love the beach and often times hang out around the pier. We got really lucky this weekend shooting at the unusually vacant beach. (I think it was partially due to the overcast light and chilly weather.) Lucky for us, this meant the lighting was beautiful everywhere and we were able to get some rare shots of the open beach!

What I loved most about our session together was the creative collaboration process. Since the spot was such a personal place to the both of them, I really wanted to capture the important elements that made it special. As we walked around the beach, we took the first half of the pictures on the sand (under the pier, near the ocean line, and by the lifeguard towers.) For the second half of the session, the sun was staring to set and we walked along the top of the pier. We got some great shots with the benches, railing, and telescope. Near the end of the session, we came across a gift shop that had a little blue VW van sitting on the ground and it caught Henry’s eye. Just a few weeks prior, his 16yo daughter coincidentally made an identical clay figure of a green VW van! It ended up being a great little prop for a detailed ring shot.

Cori & James: Huntington Beach Engagement Session

This weekend I had a chance to meet up with Cori and James at the Huntington Beach Pier. Our target spot was Ruby’s Diner, the place where James asked Cori to be his sweetheart 5.5 years ago. These two met while attending CSU Fullerton, through mutual friends. On their first date, Cori was so shy she wasn’t able to say a word to James. A lot has happened for these two over the past year, getting engaged, buying a home together, and now wedding planning. I hope these sweet pictures help remind them of this special time in their lives as an engaged couple!
